REWIND OF THE MAJOR WILDLIFE

It's exam season again, a time when we like to look back on the past semester. This year, final-year veterinary students once again could take part in the “Major Wildlife”, an elective that focuses on wild animals and their health in a broader ecological context.

The Major Wildlife has now been organised for the third year in a row. Over the past semester, fascinating excursions, lessons, internships and clinics took place, during which students were exposed to the importance of conservation, One Health, pathology and rehabilitation of wild animals in various ways.

Thanks to the hospitality and expert guidance of the Domain of Han, the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV), the Research Institute for Nature and Forestry (INBO) and the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp (KMDA), the students gained fresh insights into various aspects of animal health and nature conservation.

The excursions not only provided a valuable addition to the veterinary curriculum, but also established a stronger collaboration between education, research and the professional field. A sincere word of thanks to all the organisations involved and to the motivated students, whose interest and commitment helped make this learning experience a success!
