Earlier this month, the 18th Spanish Herpetological Congress took place in Barcelona, Spain. The congress served as an important meeting point for researchers dedicated to the study and conservation of amphibians and reptiles. Our WHG team member, Eduardo Fernández Meléndez, attended the event and presented his latest research.

A congress offers a great opportunity to exchange knowledge, connect with colleagues, and share recent research in herpetology. Eduardo took this chance and presented our latest publication, “Co-Exposure with the Herbicide 2,4-D Does Not Exacerbate Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans Infection in the Italian Crested Newt Triturus carnifex.” The study explores two major threats to amphibians: disease and pollution.
We were curious about his experience at the congress, so we asked Eduardo to share his thoughts:
I was happy that my presentation attracted a lot of interest and sparked a lively discussion. The congress was a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues and share our research. I also took the opportunity to go into the field and observe animals in their natural habitat, where I encountered the ocellated lizard.

I returned motivated and eager to apply my new knowledge to our research and help protect vulnerable species.
