MEET AMADEUS, OUR NEWEST TEAM MEMBER AT WHG

WHG’s research now reaches beyond Europe to the tropical Andes, a global hotspot of amphibian diversity. Amadeus joins our team and applies his expertise and passion to study disease driven declines, helping us conserve the extraordinary amphibians of Ecuador.

Amadeus' passion for amphibians has shaped his career from the very beginning. During his previous work at Trier University, he focussed extensively on tropical conservation research, disease ecology and new molecular approaches to trace lost species. When he’s not busy sequencing DNA or trekking through the Andes in search of frogs and toads, Amadeus enjoys bringing science into practice for conservation and as such has co-founded an NGO dedicated to conserving tropical ecosystems. We asked Amadeus what he is most looking forward to at WHG:

"I’m focusing my PhD on the tropical Andes of Ecuador, a global epicentre of disease-driven amphibian declines. I aim to understand why some populations persist for decades while others collapse from emerging wildlife diseases. By combining genomic and transcriptomic tools with biogeographic approaches, I hope to uncover how pathogen lineages evolve and interact with their amphibian hosts."

Welcome to the team, Amadeus!
